Third year

Skills

Search for information and use of new technologies

Thanks to the many projects I did in the different subjects, my search for information improved, but I still had to learn a lot about new technologies and how to apply them to science.

Written communication

I read more papers than before, and I felt my english written communication had progressed. In fact, after this year, I achieved the Advanced Cambridge exam.

Oral communication

My oral communication gets better every year, in particular, because I have gained more confidence and I am more extrovert with my classmates.

Team work

As I became more extrovert, I was able to work with every classmate without a problem. Moreover, I started receiving more compliments from my colleagues and I could see how they trusted me to take responsibility on the task.

Projects

Clinical genetics

The aim of this project was to study the Kleefstra Syndrome from a genetic point of view. It is an example of how I learnt to look for information in scientific databases.

Internship report

During my internship at Staffordshire University I worked in a molecular biology laboratory. The aim of the project was to reveal if the treatment with EtBr and CAP could make breast cancer cells more susceptible to apoptosis. This document contains the report of the stay.

Problem based assessment: Why do children seem to be less infected by the new SARS-CoV-2?

The hypothesis of this project was that age-dependent differences in the expression and location of ACE2 could be one of the most relevant reasons for the observed variation in the symptomatology of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Accordingly, the aim was to quantify the ACE2 expression in both adults and children in the upper respiratory tract.

Cellular biology

In this practical research project we worked in group in the laboratory to obtain results and reveal the Role of HDACs and PI3K/AKT Pathway on Cellular Proliferation. and Differentiation on Mouse Myoblast. After that, we had to write a paper in the same format as one of the popular scientific journals, in this case, Cell.
